Rhythmic
Transmitters
Where the living gesture meets creative technology. Observing the invisible language of human movement through chromomorphic colour, form, and light.
The Chromomorphic Cosmos
Each planet carries a phenomenal colour, a soul quality, and an ancient geometric form. Together they compose the chromomorphic field — the living palette of colour and form in movement.

Rhythmic Transmitters is an AHRC-funded creative technology project exploring how human expressive movement can be observed, translated, and transmitted through digital media.
What happens when the invisible gesture becomes data —
and the data becomes art again?
Working at the intersection of performance, kinematic observation, and real-time visual processing, we develop new ways to make the inner qualities of human movement visible. Performers move to live piano and voice while their gestures flow through TouchDesigner and MediaPipe into living chromomorphic forms — colour, light, and shape that breathe with the performer.
Each planet in the chromomorphic cosmos carries a phenomenal colour quality — Saturn's contemplative indigo, Jupiter's expansive orange, Mars' courageous red, the Sun's radiant gold. These formative colour-qualities become the field through which gesture is translated into digital light.
The project sits within Birmingham City University's CreaTech Frontiers programme, bringing together artists, technologists, and researchers to explore what happens when ancient movement practices meet contemporary digital tools.
From Gesture to Light
The creative pipeline — how living movement becomes digital art.
Live Performance
Performers move to live piano and spoken word. Each gesture carries intention — colour qualities made visible through the body in space.
Kinematic Observation
Body movement is observed in real time, translating three-dimensional gesture into spatial data streams. The skeleton becomes a dynamic constellation of tracked nodes.
Chromomorphic Translation
TouchDesigner and MediaPipe map kinematic gesture qualities to the phenomenal colour field. Velocity becomes luminance. Trajectory becomes hue. Form emerges from motion.
Living Output
A real-time digital artwork that breathes with the performer — projected, filmed, and shared as a new creative document where body and cosmos meet.
Colour and Form in Motion
The chromomorphic field made visible — each colour and form carrying the phenomenal quality of its celestial archetype.
